Why to Eat Healthy Foods

For a healthy diet, balance is crucial. Not too much of any category, but not too little of any either. Not only a balanced diet, but excersise is necessary - 60 minutes a day is best. A balanced diet should include (and this is what I eat - not all of it on a daily basis, of course) milk, yogurt and cheese(for dairy, which has calcium); peanuts and lowfat meat (for meat and beans, which gives you protein and healthy oils); bananas, apples and raisins (for fruits, which give you potassium and vitamin C); zucchini, broccoli, corn, potatoes, brussel sprouts, and sweet potatoes (for vegetables, which give you vitamins A and D); and last but certainly not least, whitewheat bread, rice and whole grain pasta (for grains, which give you carbohydrates and fiber). I eat a (mostly) balanced diet with food from each group every day. I don't know if I eat the exact amounts recommended, but I think I do pretty well. And if I'm not doing as well as I think, I'll just start running again, with hiking on the weekends.

Junk Food - Why You Don't Eat It

Alright, I admit it. I eat WAY too much junk food. Pizza, burgers, chocolate (I LOVE CHOCOLATE!!!!!), french fries, ice cream, cake, and basically anything else with sugar in it - you name it, I've eaten it. Even though I really shouldn't. Too much sugar is really bad - if the energy isn't used, it's stored as fat in your body, because your brain always prepares in case of a sudden food shortage. Also, sugar gives you a burst of energy (often called a "sugar high"), but afterwards you have what I call a "crash and burn" - you become really tired. And any sugar you didn't use during the "high" becomes fat.
